Abstract
This paper starts with a discussion why Personal Rapid Transit is needed. It then tries to answer the question why existing, traditional Public Transport is insufficient to attract new travelers and why the public transport market share does no expand, but drops in most countries, in spite of the awareness of the necessity of reducing carbon dioxide levels. The need for PRT is broadly outlined. Europeans’ view on Public Transport and on the environment is commented. The character of the PRT Benefits is analyzed, and some case studies are cited, in which benefits and costs of some PRT networks are calculated and summarized.
